Tips to make the most of your experience
If you’re feeling a tad overwhelmed by everything conference has to offer, check out these strategies for gaining confidence and maximizing your time.
Browse the schedule in advance and create a calendar with your must-attend sessions. Make sure to register online for sessions to reserve your spot! Then, make a list of the manufacturers you don’t want to miss, in order by booth number, so you can walk the 200,000 sq. ft. Architecture Expo without missing a hot product and without having to retrace your steps.
Check out the #A19Con hashtag on social media and join the conversation before the conference begins. You just might find folks you want to meet up with in person.
Update your résumé
You never know whom you’ll meet or what potential job opportunities may arise. Make sure your LinkedIn profile and résumé are up-to-date so you can quickly send them to firm leaders who express interest in learning more about you.
Update your digital portfolio
Similarly, make sure you can show your work at a moment’s notice. Depending on how you’ve compiled your portfolio, make sure it’s updated and ready to go so that you can pull it up on your smartphone, send a link, or hand over a flash drive.
Bring at least two pairs of comfy shoes
Walking all day on concrete, even concrete covered with carpet, gets tiring fast. Make sure your shoes are professional yet comfortable, and don’t wear the same shoes two days in a row.
Leave room in your suitcase
Inevitably, you’ll collect materials—whether brochures about products, giveaways, or business cards—so leave a little bit of space for bringing it home.
